Saquella 1856 is an established Italian espresso coffee producer.
The Saquella family began coffee roasting in 1856 and the current business is still in the same family ownership producing quality authentic Italian espresso that has been continually refined over the past 150 years. Our business operates on a global scale with all production being carried out at the Saquella roastery in Pescara and represented via a network of national distributors in 47 different countries and our subsidiaries companies Saquella Deutschland and Saquella UK. Saquella’s range offers premium products distributed in Horeca Channel, exclusive retail shops and premium supermarket chains.

OUR HISTORY
1856: Clemente Saquella started trading in spices and colonial products: tea, barley, cacao of various qualities and origins.
1945:The Clemente Saquella company with Arnaldo Saquella at its command, established the first factory to be equipped with one 25kg Vittoria and 120kg Farina roasting machines. Success was immediate and the sales area included Abruzzo, Lazio, Marche, Umbria and Campania.
1969: A new company was established called Luigi & Enrico Saquella snc. The management was taken by the brothers, grand -childrens of the founder Arnaldo, who had been working in the company for years.
1971: New company head office were opened on an area of 11,000 sq m in the industrial area of Pescara.
1972: The process of internationalization begins with the distribution of espresso in Canada and other European countries.
1988: Clemente Saquella started trading in spices and colonial products: tea, barley, cacao of various qualities and origins.
1997: Saquella Deutschland was set up to consolidate the business in the German market.
2000: Certificate ISO 9001, BRC – British Retailer Consortium and IFS -International Food Standard.
2006: The company celebrated 150 years of history.
2013: Enrico assumes the presidency of the company supported by his daughters and son: Ilaria as Export and Retail Sales Director, Arnaldo as CEO at Saquella Deutschland Company and Bianca as Production Director.
2015: Saquella becomes a FAIRTRADE accredited trader.
2021: The company is present in Italy and abroad in 45 countries.

Quality is at the centre of the company philosophy; consolidated over a hundred years of experience, and still today this fundamental value inspires every chosen strategy.
Quality, sought for and achieved in all stages of the production process: from the strict selection of the coffee origin, the careful roasting and exact composition of blends to the choice of the most innovative systems of packaging. It is a company recognized and appreciated around the world for the high quality and the exquisite and unique taste of its espresso.
The blends are composed by ten types of single origin coffees: pure Arabica, Arabica and Robusta to meet the different needs of taste.
As Enrico Saquella says: “Behind a really good cup of coffee, there’s the quality of raw materials, not just the choice between Arabica and Robusta, but the characteristics of all coffee species. The integrity of the beans, the natural properties, the percentage of fats and oils, the temperature to which they have been subjected. We do not buy coffee sight unseen. It is selected only after checks of each supply, through taste and laboratory tests”.

The Saquella company is located in Pescara. The plant is built over an area of 11,000 sq.m of which 5,000 is covered, and is equipped with high technology equipment which co-exist with experience acquired over a hundred years.
More than 20 varieties of raw coffee are blended and packaged by modern machinery to satisfy the many and varied demands of the market.
On the Italian market, the company’s consolidated presence in the finest bars and restaurants, as well as supermarket chains and traditional retail stores, makes Saquella Coffee a leading Italian coffee roaster especially in central Italy.
In the foreign countries the Saquella Coffee internationalisation process began in the 70’s.
Today Saquella Coffee boasts a solid foreign market that accounts for 50% of production, thanks to the excellent trade relations with more than 40 countries, including the German market through the subsidiary company Saquella Deutschland.
