The Tenuta Cavalier Pepe Estate was born from the intuition of Angelo Pepe, appointed Cavaliere della Repubblica (Knight of the Republic) in 1998, for work merits by President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. A dream inherited from his grandparents and transmitted by his parents. The care for the land and dedication to the production of wine have materialized in a company that has made sustainability, respect for the environment and the artisan connotation of its activity, the basis of a precise ethical and aesthetic choice.
A further challenge, dictated by the times, was taken up by Milena, eldest daughter of Cavalier Angelo, who arrived in Irpinia with her father to guide the estate, with the dual objective of keeping intact its natural productivity and enhancing its cultural and tourist value.
The Cavalier Pepe Estate today is a reality with 70 hectares of vineyards, 12 hectares of olive groves and some hazelnut groves. A cozy cellar, a panoramic restaurant and some accommodations surrounded by nature complete a business system respectful of the landscape and destination of a qualified cultural tourism. In 2022, the company was named among the 100 best wineries in the world for wine tourism reception by World's Best Vineyards.
The Tenuta is located in Irpinia, the green heart of Campania, on the hills of Luogosano, Sant'Angelo all'Esca and Taurasi, in the heart of the Taurasi DOCG denomination, between 350 and 500 meters above sea level. Irpinia is one of the most important wine-growing areas in Italy, with its three DOCGs: Taurasi, Greco di Tufo and Fiano di Avellino. 17 municipalities fall within the Taurasi area, 8 in that of Greco di Tufo and 26 in that of Fiano di Avellino, all included between the valleys of the river Calore and the river Sabato. Irpinia is crossed by the Apennines, the climate is continental, with good temperature ranges between night and day thanks to the high altitude. The particular morphology of the territory has contributed to the creation of different microclimates.
The company presents a wide range of wines from Irpinia and Campania: red, white, rosé, sparkling wines, a passito wine and extra virgin olive oil. Products highly appreciated on the national and international market, with excellent feedback from wine critics. The work and passion of the Pepe Family and the contribution of highly specialized collaborators are among the fundamental ingredients. The company cultivates its vineyards most, bottles its own wine and directly takes care of all the production up to the sales of the bottle. In 2016, the estate became part of the FIVI association.
