GOTTO D'ORO SOCIETA' COOPERATIVA

https://www.gottodoro.it/

Our wines originate from the grapes cultivated by our members in the area of the Castelli Romani. The most renowned wines are Frascati D.O.C., Marino D.O.C., Castelli Romani D.O.C., and the white, rosé, and red I.G.T. Lazio. The Frascati is the most international of the Roman wines, and its success abroad is due to the fact that the Queen Consort Victoria Mary of England fell in love with it and, in 1923, requested it at court. Since then, the reputation and export of Frascati has known no bounds. In the Roman period, Marino wine was known as Albanum, and even then it was appreciated and savoured in the patrician villas on the Colli Romani. In 1536, it was served at the table of Charles V, and in 1571, after the victory at the battle of Lepanto started by Marcantonio Colonna, there were allocations of land to the victorious soldiers, which led to the introduction of the Malvasia di Candia vine.
Castelli Romani is particularly esteemed in its red and sparkling white versions, while the I.G.T. allows the local and international grape varieties to best express themselves,
both individually and in cuvée.
Gotto d'oro preserves the ancient viticultural tradition of this generous land of the Castelli Romani, a tradition that extends to the south of Rome and whose roots go back to the Roman era, and from which the estate has inherited its brand: "Gotto". The term, in fact, derives from the Latin word “guttus”, or glass beaker for the ancient Romans, a variant of which also indicates its content of wine. The products labelled with the Gotto d'oro brand are today known and appreciated all over the world, to the point of being associated with the history and the monuments of Rome, the Eternal City.
