The history of Villa Travignoli is a fascinating journey through time that spans centuries of winemaking tradition and Tuscan beauty. Located in the heart of the Chianti Rufina hills, this splendid estate has a history full of passion and dedication to the production of high quality wines.
The first historical signs of Villa Travignoli date back to 1100, a period in which the property is mentioned in the texts of a parchment of the monks of the Monastery of Vallombrosa. Initially used as a stopping point for pilgrims, in 1400 Villa Travignoli became one of the 19 possessions of the Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova in Florence, thanks to a choice by the previous owner Aloisa Lotti.
Only during the 19th century did Villa Travignoli pass under the ownership of the Busi family, holders of the noble title of Conti, and it began to gain a significant reputation for the production of high quality wines. Thanks to the Busi family's tireless commitment to constantly improving winemaking techniques and preserving local traditions, the wines of Villa Travignoli conquered an important role in the Tuscan wine scene, obtaining in 1924 an award for the excellent production of Chianti wine.
Furthermore, in the 1980s, during a process of modernization of the vineyards, a stele dating back to the Etruscan period was found, which is now on display in the Fiesole museum open to the public.
Over time, Villa Travignoli has gone through various historical periods, but the passion for viticulture has always remained the beating heart of the estate. The estate is recognized in Italy as one of the 150 more than centenary businesses on the national territory, in fact this year marks the 550th anniversary of Villa Travignoli 1473-2023.
Today, management has passed to the new generation of the Busi family, who continue to cultivate the vines with great care and dedication, respecting the balance between tradition and innovation.
